After 1862 (when an Act of 1860 came into force on the death of Archbishop Sumner) the Archbishops' estates, including Lambeth Palace, were maintained on his behalf by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners (succeeded in 1948 by the Church Commissioners). Aspects of the site's history are therefore documented not only in the Archbishops' papers held at Lambeth Palace Library but in other papers held as part of the Commissioners' archives at the Church of England Record Centre. There are also images of the Palace (e.g. prints, photographs and plans) within the Lambeth Palace Library printed books collection.

Note that some plans of the premises are accessioned as part of the CERC holdings [C-2017-32].

Photographs of the Seely and Paget restoration of the Palace are held at the RIBA Library.
