The Series includes:
Registers of Leases, 1678-1862
The registers contain copies of leases of all the estates excluding, for the most part, the tenements on the waste of the manors of Deal Prebend and Court Ash. Patents of appointment of estate officials are also recorded in these volumes. The registers complement the series of original leases (TA).
The list of leases available in the Library includes details of the registered leases where the original leases are missing.
TB 25-27 Abstracts of Leases, 18th-19th centuries.
The volumes comprise abstracts of leases, with details of tenure, rents and covenants of the lessees.
TB 28-34 Contract Books, 1660-1861.
Records of contracts for the grant of leases of the estates of the archbishop of Canterbury, 1660-1861, and from 1660-5 for the bishop of London.
TB 35-67 Schedules of Leases, 1805-1858.
Schedules of leases, including details of the leasehold estates, the number allocated to each estate in the 19th century rentals, the name of the lessees, conditions of tenure, fines, and date for renewal.
TB 68-95 Schedules of Deal Leases, Kent.
Various schedules of leases of the tenements in Deal, including details of the premises, the number allocated to each tenements in the 19th century rentals, the names of the lessees, the condition of tenure, the fine and date of renewal.

FindingAidsTB 1-24: catalogue records (which do not exist for every entry in these volumes) are based on references in TA list & card index. These references to items within the volumes use the document numbers rather than page/folio numbers (although internal indexes within the TB volumes themselves may refer to page/folio numbers).
AdminHistoryA few properties are not documented in the series of leases (TA) and appear only in the registered leases (TB). These include CANTERBURY, Kent, Archbishop's Palace, for which the TB series records the leases for 21 years and other records relating to the lease of the site of the old palace in Canterbury, together with the porters lodge, gardens, stables, coachhouses, malthouse, granaries, bowling green, reserving to the archbishop the court house and treasury for the records with the use of two rooms on court days for the juries. Rent: 60/-. In 1812 the property was let on 8 separate leases to the devisees of John Monins, and in 1819 it was further subdivided. Parts 27e (tenements and a stable, leased, 12 June 1826, to Sarah Monins of Canterbury, widow, thereafter ?sold to the dean and chapter of Canterbury) and 27f (tailors shop and yard, 11 June 1819, Gerard Andrews, dean of Canterbury) are not documented in the leases.
