Description | 'An Account of the Collegiate Church or Free Chapel and Hospital of St. Katharine near the Tower of London under the immediate patronage of the Queens of England, by Doctor Ducarel F.R.S. and F.S.A., Commissary of that Royal Jurisdiction A.D. 1763'. By Andrew Coltee Ducarel (1713-1785), appointed commissary of the royal peculiar of St. Katharine by the Tower in 1755, and afterwards Lambeth Librarian. A fair copy, with corrections in Ducarel's hand.
f. i verso (frontispiece). Engraved portrait of Andrew Coltee Ducarel [Francis Perry, published 1757 after A. Soldi, 1746]. Added below is a drawing of a monument to Ducarel and his wife Sarah (d. 1791) in the chancel of St. Katharine by the Tower. f. 2r. CustodialHistory | Given to Sion College by Frederic Simcox Lea (c.1824-1893), priest in charge of Holy Trinity, Stepney, in 1867 (Sion L40.2/E64, Book of Benefactors, p. 405). Lea was President of Sion College in 1871. He was the author of 'The Royal Hospital and Collegiate Church of Saint Katharine near the Tower in its relation to the East of London' (London, 1878). Transferred from Sion College to Lambeth Palace Library, 1996. |
