pp. 1-75. The Preces privatae of Lancelot Andrewes, in Latin and English. The hand appears to be that of Gilbert Sheldon, afterwards Archbishop of Canterbury, written while he was chaplain to the Shirley family at Staunton Harold [c. 1656].
pp. 77-126. Prayers (written in another hand) for various seasons of the canonical year, including prayers and a meditation to be used at communion. At p.119 are 'prayers for Sir S. Shirley' [Sir Seymour Shirley (1647-67), who succeeded to the baronetcy as a boy in 1656].
PhysicalDescription1 vol., 170 x 115 mm., xvi, 132 pp. (iv-xvi, 127-32 blank). Contemporary calf binding.
At pp. i-ii are ownership inscriptions of William H. Wade-Gery of Willesden, and a sale catalogue description by Bull and Auvache, London.
