| AdminHistory | Palmer was appointed Bishop of Bombay in 1908 and retired in 1929. He played an important part in the development of self-government for the Church in India, and particularly in the passage of the Indian Church Measure and Act, 1927. On his return to England he became a member and eventually chairman of the Archbishop's Overseas Advisory Committee. He was appointed chairman of Archbishop Lang's commissions on dispensations in 1935 and on impediments to marriage in 1937. |
| Acquisition | The bulk of the papers were given to the library at Bishop Palmer's death, but MSS. 2998-3015 were given by Lady Laura Eastaugh in 1974. |
| RelatedMaterial | Papers of Palmer as a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, are preserved in the college library. |
