DescriptionLetters from Henry Hall (1717-1763), Lambeth Librarian 1742-57, to his succesor Andrew Coltee Ducarel
Hall was ordained in 1749 and served in Kent as Rector of Harbledown 1750-63, Vicar of Herne 1752-6, Rector of Orpington 1755-63, and Vicar of East Peckham 1756-63.

The letters relate to Lambeth Palace Library and its collections, antiquarian research concerning Lambeth Palace and Croydon Palace, and antiquities and ecclesiastical affairs in the diocese of Canterbury.

Included are letters concerning the manuscripts of Henry Wharton (1664-1695), with a transcript of a codicil to his will concerning his papers relating to William Laud, Archbishop of Canterbury (ff. 19-24).

This manuscript was lot 1450 in 'A catalogue of the very valuable library ... of the late A.C. Ducarel', sold by Leigh and Sotheby 3 April 1786, when it was purchased by Michael Lort (d. 1790), Lambeth Librarian, and later given to the Library.
