| Description | Arches Ff consists of original documents produced in evidence before the Court of Arches, and other courts in which the same officials were used to practise. The exhibits were subsequently retained by the court and filed apart from the other records. The exhibits include leases, wills, and printed books.
About one half of these documents relate to suits heard by the Court of Arches (the title of the catalogue record may identify the name of the case), the others concern suits before the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, the Court of Admiralty, and local ecclesiastical courts, such as the consistory court of London, and the courts of the Archdeacon of Middlesex, the Commissary for Surrey, and the peculiar jurisdiction of St Catherine-by-the-Tower, London. As many of the exhibits as possible have been included in the index of the cases of the Court of Arches. |
