TitleStatues and Rule of Life of the Society of the Mission Priests of St. John the Evangelist, (American Congregation)
Date1928-1937
DescriptionRecords relating to the Statutes and the Rule of Life of the Society of SSJE. The Statutes are the control mechanism for the Society and include a statement laying out the objectives of the Society. They also provide details of the expectations placed upon member of the Society, for example the likelihood of being sent abroad on Missionary work and it also sets down regulations by which the Society and its members are governed, an example being in regard the possibility of the release and dismissal from the Society. The Rule of Life outlines the expectations placed upon those who become Professed Fathers, and later Brothers, in terms of how they are expected to live their lives, particularly in regard to chastity, poverty, mental prayer and silence.

Over time amendments were made to the Statue and Rule and this would therefore see a new version printed, and this would be given to each Professed Father.
