AdminHistory | In 1976 the BCC DEA Board discussed a proposal which was to be presented to the BCC Assembly concerning a national effort in evangelism. In 1977, the BCC Assembly by a narrow vote commended this NIE to the churches. The initiative which had now become known as a Nationwide Initiative in Evangelism and was to stimulate rather than organise local evangelism was to cover all four nations and apparently also fitted in with the Methodist world-wide call to evangelsim, which was happening at that time. The DEA felt that an Assembly which was to be convened in 1980 would produce fresh evidence that it was appropriate to have an additional organisation for stimulating evangelism. In fact this was the beginning of the process which led to the winding up of the NIE in 1982. The NIE's functions were then taken over by the BCC's Standing Committee on Evangelism, which later became the Evangelism Committee. |
