DescriptionThe correspondence covers the activity of the Mothers' Union in the dioceses in question, concerning in particular: changes in personnel; financing, resourcing and training of MU Workers (addressing especially the question of unmarried Workers); missionary and development work; constitutional matters and membership, particularly of unmarried mothers and wives of polygamists; availability of MU literature, including in the vernacular; contact with home branches including links and gifts sent; visits of overseas members to England and of home members abroad; conferences both overseas and in the UK. Reference is occasionally made to political sentiment and the social, economic and cultural circumstances of the dioceses, as well as race relations, the impact of the First World War on MU work, climatic conditions, existing religious beliefs (both traditional African and Christian) and attitudes to weddings, marriage and the family.
