"On the Bishop of Calcutta's return home in 1845, he requested to see the following narrative, which he read with the liveliest emotion again and again. On successive Sundays also parts were read to him at his request, till he stopped the reader once again saying he could not bear it, it affected him so deeply. Finally he added the introduction and conclusion at the earnest request of the compiler of the narrative."

Introduction by the Bishop of Calcutta: "The following memorials are designed for the eyes of the family only. Death bed scenes are not necessary to the confirmation of our faith in the case of those who have long and consistently walked with God... The following memorial contains one of the greatest triumphs of sound scriptural piety over the most acute anguish for a long period of time that has ever been known. To the sorrowing husband and the surviving parent the following memorials of one most dear and affectionately dedicated."
