DescriptionPapers relating to the bequest of John Warner, Bishop of Rochester (1581-1666), providing for four Scottish scholars to study annually at Balliol College prior to ordination in the Church of England.

ff. 1r-7v. An extract from the will of John Warner concerning the scholarships, with an account of its clarification by Parliament 22 Charles II [1670-71] and of further reforms by the Trustees (the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Rochester) to 1680. Included are copies of letters between William Sancroft, Archbishop of Canterbury, and John Dolben, Bishop of Rochester (the Trustees) and the Archbishops of St. Andrews and Glasgow, and a letter from the Trustees to John Venn, Master of Balliol College, March-May 1680.
