p. 2. Arms, blazoned, of the Order of the Garter and of Thomas Darcy, 1st Baron Darcy of Chiche (1506-1558). Darcy, who was made a knight of the Garter in 1551, was no doubt the owner of this book.
pp. 3-54. Statutes of the Order, as reformed by Henry VIII. For an edition, see Elias Ashmole, 'The institution, laws and ceremonies of the most noble Order of the Garter' (London, 1672), Appendix.
pp. 54-60. (Additions, in another hand). Additional statutes from the reigns of Philip and Mary and the first year of Elizabeth I.

On the pastedown in the front of the book is the Oath as given at the installation of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury (1528-1590), and Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon (1526-1596), as knights of the Garter in 1561.

At p. 3 is an inscription: 'This book belongeth unto Wm Griffith Mr of Arts once of Christ's College in Cambridge; now at Whitehall, 1689'. Further notes in Griffith's hand are at p. 2 and on the front pastedown. William Griffith graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge (B.A. 1655/6, M.A. 1659). He was Secretary to the Envoy to Sweden 1664-66 and Assistant to the Master of Requests 1674-77. A number of his papers and collections, including this volume, were acquired by Thomas Tenison, Archbishop of Canterbury, and are now in Lambeth Palace Library. For a list of part of his collection see MS. 952, item 102.
Recorded in the catalogue of the personal library of Thomas Tenison of c.1715-16: 'Statutes of the Order of the Garter ... the book of the Lord Darcy' (LR/F/16, f. 70r).
Recorded amongst the manuscripts of Archbishop Tenison in David Wilkins' catalogue of the Lambeth manuscripts dated 1720 (LR/F/40).
