Description'A true account how Madame the Marquise de Brinvilliers, Monsieur Sante Croix, la Chaussée, and divers others her accomplices, poysoned her Father, her two Brothers, and divers others in France, for which she fled into England, and from thence to Liege, where she was apprehended by order of the French King, and brought to Paris where she was tryed for the same; Together with her defence made by her Councell Monsieur Nivelle ... : upon which tryall she was found guiltie and condemned by the Parliament of Paris to have her head struck off, her body to be burnt, and her ashes to be throwne into the ayre, and la Chaussee to be broke alive upon the wheele; who were so executed'.

An account of the crimes and trial of Marie-Madeleine-Marguerite d'Aubray, Marquise de Brinvilliers (1630-1676), her lover, captain Jean-Baptiste de Godin, Sieur de Sainte-Croix (d.1672), and Jean Amelin, known as la Chaussee, a footman. The Marquise de Brinvilliers was executed in 1676. She inspired an opera 'La Marquise de Brivilliers' first performed in 1831, fictional accounts of her life by Alexandre Dumas and Arthur Conan Doyle, and a poem by Robert Browning.
