Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor, to the Earl of Shrewsbury, from London, 18 February 1589/90, about a suit in Chancery between William Goodwin, plaintiff, and John Harrison, defendant, for setting aside the former's bond to leave his land to the daughter of his first marriage in favour of the sons of another marriage. Asks the Earl to call the parties before him, since he had already 'dealt in the same cause,' and to assess a sum to be paid to Goodwin's daughter and to report to the Court. 1p. A.H. to the Earl of Shrewsbury, from Court, 17 February 1587/8, requesting him to receive the submission of Nicholas Clarke [of Chesterfield, co. Derby], who had incurred the Earl's disfavour 'aboute the interest of a Lease,' and about which the Privy Council had written to the Earl, [Acts of the Privy Council, 1587-88, 18, 140.] as the business of the writer's master, in which Clarke is employed, is hindered. 1p. A note by the Countess of Shrewsbury, that she had opened the letter by mistake, and asking Baldwine to bring news of her daughter. [Frances, wife of Sir Henry Pierrepont.] 1p. Endorsed.

Richard Torre to [the Earl of Shrewsbury], from Worksop Lodge, [co. Nott.], 26 June 1585, stating that both the Earl's ships, laden with lead, are stopped at Hull by the Queen's officers. Also discusses the wool clip at Worksop, sales of lead, the purchase of mill stones.

The Earl of Shrewsbury to Thomas Baldwin, at Shrewsbury House, London, 27 October 1580, introducing the bearer, one of Blythe's tenants, to whom he wished well, coming to London about the payment of his rents. Mentions a letter from Walsingham about the Queen of Scots' diet money. Postscript in another hand asking Baldwin to send a hawking bag and a very fine and soft buff leather girdle, and giving directions about a legal case concerning the lordship of Langford. 1p. Seal.
