DescriptionRegister of marriages in the British Chapel at Smyrna, now Izmir, Turkey. November 1799 - November 1840. With additional documents 1785-1850.

The register was begun by John Frederick Usko (b. 1760), Chaplain in the British Factory at Smyrna, in 1799. He also included accounts for disbursements from 'Peterson's legacy for the benefit of the poor' 1800-06 (ff. 72-74).

At f. 117r is a certified copy of the marriage of the Hon. William Waldegrave [afterwards 1st Baron Radstock and Governor of Newfoundland] and Cornelia Van Lennep on 28 Dec. 1785.

At f. 118r is a certified copy of the marriage of John Lee and Maria Maltass on 4 September 1797.

Inserted at f. 119r is a certificate of the marriage at All Saints, Boudjah, Smyrna, of Peter Fathallah and Mary Pittaco on 9 June 1850.
