This is the only known manuscript of this interesting tract,
which was first printed by Wharton-Cave. It has often been
said (last by Bardenhewer, Gesch. d. Altkirchl. Litt. II) that
the manuscript is lost: I do not know why.

PhysicalDescriptionVellum, 8 3/4 x 5 1/4, two volumes:
I 29 lines to a page, cent. x in a clear, upright, not very regular Carolingian minuscule. I suppose the hand to be French. It changes in the middle of f. 10a from a remarkably neat and pretty script to one somewhat larger and less beautiful.
II text 18 lines, gloss varying, cent. xii late, in a fine, clear, pointed hand.
Calf binding, pr. 1s. 6d.
Collation: 1(8)-5(8) 6(6) 7(6) 8(8)-10(8) 11(6) (wants 5, 6) || 12(8)-21(8) (wants 8). Quire 21 has a hole (eaten by mice) through it.
CustodialHistoryVol. I is from St Augustine's Canterbury. It has on f. 1 the press-mark D I. IIII. gra. III liber S. Aug. Cant. It is no. 851 in the Catalogue (Anc. Libr. pp. 287, 518) where it is entered as:
Liber de ineffabili excellencia dei et in eodem libro tract. de prima die a deo facta creacione angelorum, etc. etc.; ending: Victorinus de fabrica mundi et de vii spectaculis mundi liber vetus. D. 4. G. 3, 2 fo. quando quidam.
Vol. II has no decisive trace of provenance.
