DescriptionSermons preached during war with France, together with medical and domestic recipes. N.d. [c.1690-1708].

ff. 1-113. Eight sermons, including two for victory in the war against France (ff. 2-13, 99-113), the first being a solemn fast-day sermon; and two for funerals (ff. 59-85). Included are references to the King and Queen [William and Mary] (ff. 12v, 113r); to recent defeats inflicted by the French on land and sea (ff. 4, 111-113); and to fears of the loss of liberty and religion averted by a deliverer raised up by God (f. 3v), probably a reference to the battle of the Boyne in 1690. N.d. [c. 1690-94].
An inscription on the front end-paper, "ex-libris domini Hassell" is in the same hand as the sermons.

ff. 124-140. Medical and domestic recipes and notes, written mainly by another hand. Included are references (f. 124) to Samuel Harris while rector at Walgrave, Northants. [1704-08]; and (ff. 133-135) to Lady Napier and Archibald Napier [? of Luton Hoo, Beds.].

ff. 114-123 are blank.
