Description | Correspondence and papers concerning the Archbishopric of Jerusalem, of which Stopford was appointed Vicar-General in 1974, 1973-81 (ff.1-74). Papers concerning visits by Stopford to the United States of America, 1960-9. They include (ff.81-91) `Some impressions of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the U.S.A.', c.1960; (ff.92-103) address to the College of William and Mary, 1968; (ff.104-19) address to the National Ecumenical Workshop of Philadelphia, 1969; (ff.120-5) correspondence with John Pares Craine, Bishop of Indianapolis, on church government, 1972. (ff.75-125). Miscellaneous papers, amongst which are: (ff.138-50) 'A survey of Anglican work in modern universities', no date [20th century]; (ff.151-82) `Confidential report of a working party on the future development of the Church of England chaplaincy to the University of London', 1968; (ff.183-203) memorandum by Max Alexander Cunningham Warren, Dean of Westminster, entitled `Are there any circumstances in which it would be proper for a church consecrated for Christian worship to be used for worship that was not Christian?', with comments by Graham Douglas Leonard, Suffragan Bishop of Willesden, and (1981) Bishop of London, 1972; (ff.204-5) speech by Maurice Harold Macmillan, later (1984) 1st Earl of Stockton, when launching the Hertford College, Oxford, appeal, 1970.
