ff. 1r-51r. 'Illorum Magnatum stemata quorum haereditas, deficientibus masculis, ad foeminas devoluta est'. A series of pedigrees, each attributed to Robert Glover, Somerset Herald.
The pedigrees are each written on the recto of a single leaf; copies of supporting evidence is sometimes added on the verso opposite.
With added notes, mainly on heraldry, by George Carew, Earl of Totnes. Also in his hand (at ff. ii-iv) is a table of contents listing the titles found in this work and an index of family names.

The title 'Stemata Extincta' is visible under ultra violet light on the spine. On the verso of the rear cover are the words 'The Thirde Booke'.
CustodialHistoryFrom the 'Carew-Sheldon' manuscripts. Recorded [as item 123] in the 'Carew-Sheldon' catalogue dated 1664: 'A booke of heraldry entituled Stemmata Extincta, being of English familys. The 3d booke, but the 1st and 2d are not found. Folio' (Bodleian Library, Tanner MS. 275a, f. 9r). These manuscripts were acquired by Gilbert Sheldon (1598-1677), Archbishop of Canterbury.
