Title | Archbishop Cranmer's address |
Date | 1556 |
Description | In St. Mary's church, Oxford, prior to his execution, entitled `The order that was used at Oxforde the xxjth Daye of Marche Anno dni 1555[/6] beinge passhion even of Thomas Cranmer late arche-bysshopp of caunterbury at the daye appoynted to be burnte as hereafter folowythe more at large'. |
AdminHistory | The account, which is written in a contemporary secretary hand, differs slightly from that printed in Foxe's Acts and monuments. It was formerly in the Bertie Papers and perhaps belonged to the Protestant Richard Bertie, a long-standing friend of Foxe, who was in exile at the time of Cranmer's death. It may be one of the accounts of this event circulating on the continent when Foxe was collecting materials. Sold at Sotheby's 23 June 1970 (lot 316). |
