DescriptionThe opinion of Nicholas West, Bishop of Ely, in favour of the Queen addressed to Henry VIII. It is in two books beginning respectively (f. i) 'In dei nomine Amen Cum ex facto Jus metiri debeamus . . .,' and (f. 46) 'In dei nomine Amen Ad ea que contra mea Responsa Replicata sunt Rex potentissime . . .'. There are some marginal and interlinear notes in the hand of Bishop West, including a note before Book II that in it the question of divine law is dealt with at greater length (in quo latius de jure diuino disceptatur quam in primo libro).
PhysicalDescriptionWritten in a bold secretary hand (see also MS. 2342, ff. 34-50). The two books were originally foliated separately 1-44 and 1-136 (ff. 17 and 77 accidentally omitted). The wrapper, which is defective at top and bottom, is a parchment deed concerning litigation before the Bishop of Lincoln between the abbeys of Peterborough and Crowland about the advowson of Bringhurst, Leics., c. 1480-90. Endorsed, 'Liber primus et secundus eliensis Episcopi In causa Angliae', and the number '11'.
