CustodialHistoryProbably purchased at the sale of the collections of John Gough Nichols in 1879. See LR/F/46a which has a memorandum pasted on the inner surface of the front board, written by Samuel Wayland Kershaw, Lambeth Librarian 1868-1910: 'N.B. This first index in Dr. Ducarel's handwriting was among other MSS of Ducarel purchased by approval of Archbishop Tait April 1879 from the collection of J.G. Nichols F.S.A.'. This refers to Sotheby's sale of the collections of John Gough Nichols (1806-1873) on 5 April 1879:
Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, 'Catalogue of engravings, books, manuscripts and autograph letters, being the remainder of the collections of the late John Gough Nichols...' (London, 1879).
