With the exception of the first item (Aug. de symbolo) the
whole of the contents down to this point are catalogued in identical
terms in the Peterborough Matricularium under Q. 1 (no. 14). In
that document the first item was systematically omitted. See my
edition of the Catalogue (Bibliogr. Soc.) p. 33.
There are also notes in a xvth-cent. hand which has written
a good deal in the book and is that of Th. Gascoigne, the well-
known writer, and Chancellor of Oxford.
The first note on this page is headed Ihesus. Maria. iohannes,
and begins: Ecclesia christi creuit persecucionibus. It quotes Bede
super Cantica, and ends: pauper pauperem sequitur quod gascoigne
professor sacre pagine a°. chr. 1434. He writes two other notes on
Gennadius and Jerome, referring to m. hugo de s. victore in cronica
sua. One of his notes on Bede is very like that in Loci e libro
Veritatum, p. 175 (ed. Thorold Rogers).

At the top of the page is a note by Gascoigne on the name of
the book, ending: hec m. thomas gascoigne oxonie in coleg.
de oriell ebor. diosic'. natus a° d. 1432°.
On 83 he writes a note on the death of John Evangelist,
quoting Bede 'in libro suo de temporibus set non in libro suo
de naturis rerum et de tempore.' Passing over a couple of
uninteresting notes we have one on 99b: prefer istas omelias
super jerem. et ezech. scripsit idem Jeronimus 18 libros super

In respect of its title, its position between the catalogues of
Jerome and Gennadius, and its shortened form, this copy
agrees with an English group of authorities (headed by a
Hereford MS) which Dobschütz in his edition (Das Decretum
Gelasianum. T. u. U. 1912, pp. 151 sqq.) calls G. 17 a-d.

III. In the hand of I.
13. Expositio Roberti de Tumbeleia super Cantica Canticorum . . . . . 121
Osculetur me etc. Os sponsi inspiratio Christi.
The initial O has been very neatly cut out. The writing on the
verso has been supplied by a late hand on 120b, so that it
appears in its place when the leaf is turned.

Spondens leta probis. tristiciam reprobis.

Leland (Coll. IV. 31) saw a copy of this at Peterborough. So
our volume may be a duplicate, given to a Peterborough
monk studying at the University.
