Prisciani grammatica . . . . . f. 1
Cum omnis eloquentie doctrinam
A very fine initial. The letter in gold of rather poor quality.
Ground blue with bits of red: filled with conventional foliage
mainly in green, in which is a man in green and gold robe on a
chair writing in a blank book. It is good English work.
The text of Lib. I., Philosophi diffiniunt, f. 2, has a magnificent
initial in outline, with Celtic knots in the stem, drawn with
wonderful precision and delicacy. A most notable piece of work.
The Greek is not well rendered in the text.
Lib. II. Outline initial, small but excellent, washed with green, 12b.
On 15a and 15b are two more good outline initials: the second has
two birds. Lib. III., f. 24, IV. 32, initial washed with red.
V. 39b, VI. 52b, coarse initial. VII. 69b, large coarse initial on
f. 70. Change of hand at 74b. Outline initial on 87b. VIII. 88,
coarse outline initials. The hands vary at and after 97. IX. 110.
At the end of this occurs the first rubric in the book: Expl. artis
Gramatici Preciani viri eloquentissimi cesariensis doctoris urbis
rome lib. viiii. Inc. lib. x. de preterito perfecto. Coarse initial
with horned head at top . . . . . 124
The end of the text of X. is on a slip after 138.
XI. A fine initial by the artist of the first, in gold and colour with
an excellent dragon. The first scribe resumes here . . . . . 139
XII. Outline initial, 147. XIII. 154. XIV. Outline initial coarse, 161.
Change of hand at 167. XV. 171b. Large outline initial with
bird. After 178b, several hands, smaller, fill the remaining leaves.
XVI. 179.
Ends: astra nec ignes nec lucidus ethra Siderea polus (complete):
verso blank.
