DescriptionSubscription book, recording the subscriptions of clergymen and civilians to the oaths required by the canons of the Church of England. Used during the archiepiscopates of William Sancroft, John Tillotson and Thomas Tenison, Archbishops of Canterbury.
Together with printed copies of the Articles and Canons and copies of the oaths.
The volume was re-used to include memoranda concerning the Warner exhibitions for Scottish scholars at Balliol College, Oxford.

5. 'Constitutions and canons ecclesiastical: treated upon by the Bishop of London, president of the Convocation for the Province of Canterbury, and the rest of the bishops and clergie of the said Province : and agreed upon ... in their Synod begun at London anno Domini 1603 ...' (London : printed for Samuel Mearne and Robert Pawlet, 1678). Printed. [6], 69, [9] pp. Wing C4101.
6. A note in the hand of William Sancroft, Archbishop of Canterbury, of the three articles to which persons to be made ministers, admitted to benefices, or licensed to preach, catechise or become lecturers, were required to subscribe in accordance with the 36th article of the Canon.
7. Subscriptions, 1 September 1684 - 17 June 1695. Entries are in the hands of the clergy and civilians (lawyers appointed to office in the ecclesiastical courts) who subscribed, with their signature. The subscriptions relate to the Province of Canterbury and primarily to the Diocese of Canterbury. Included are subscriptions of Richard Lloyd, Dean of the Arches, John Batteley, William Needham, Nicholas Batteley, Thomas Exton, Dean of the Arches, Paul Colomiez (or Colomesius), Henry Wharton, George Oxenden, Dean of the Arches, and many others. Foliated 1r-31r.

Memoranda concerning Exhibitioners appointed in accordance with the bequest of John Warner, Bishop of Rochester (1581-1666), providing for four Scottish scholars to study annually at Balliol College prior to ordination in the Church of England. 1697-99.
