TitleWARTIME EVACUATION
Date1939
DescriptionLists of manuscripts, archives and early printed books evacuated from Lambeth for safe storage. Included are lists of 7 boxes of manuscripts and early printed books (labelled D.O.A and D.O.1-6) packed for despatch to the British Museum on 23 August1939. [A further 69 boxes, despatched to the Public Record Office between 24 August and 1 September 1939 may be incompletely recorded here]. The lists are in the hand of Irene Josephine Churchill, Assistant Librarian.

Added in another hand is a 'Synopsis of pamphlets', being a correlation between the shelf marks of pamphlet volumes as catalogued by Andrew Coltee Ducarel and the current shelf marks relating to shelves in the Great Hall. The hand is that of Harry Cross, the 'Library Boy' who was assisting Irene Churchill in 1939 (see LR/D/3).
