TitlePRINTED TRACTS AND PAMPHLETS
Date1773
Description'Catalogue of the Tracts and Pamphlets in the Archiepiscopal Library at Lambeth'. Compiled by Andrew Coltee Ducarel, Lambeth Librarian.
The catalogue records the Library's large collection of tracts and pamphlets which Ducarel arranged by subjects and bound in 1773. It also records the tracts and pamphlets bequeathed by Archbishop Thomas Secker in 1768.
The text is not in Ducarel's hand, but the dedication is signed by him. The catalogue remained in use for a considerable time. Additions were made during Ducarel's librarianship and by later Lambeth Librarians, including Samuel Wayland Kershaw, Librarian 1868-1910. A new catalogue of pamphlets was compiled by Kershaw in 1886-7 (LR/F/54-55).

Ducarel had begun work on the pamphlets in 1759. On 7 Aug. 1759 he wrote to Philip Morant: 'At present, Sir, my clerk and myself have a troublesome jobb, ie. to arrange and put in order an incredible number of pamphlets of all sorts, sizes and subjects, which have lain undigested in the MS Library ever since the restoration. this we are now about and when done they are (by order of the Archbishop) to be bound and they will make a good addition to the printed Library' (British Library Add MS 37219 f. 156). For Ducarel's list of the pamphlets, made in 1759, see MSS 4261-4263. The pamphlets in fact remained unbound until 1773 (see Ducarel's note on the title page of MS 4263).

Vol. 3 Index to the catalogue (LR/F/23-24).
Inserted is an additional index by Samuel Wayland Kershaw, Librarian 1868-1910, to the supplementary volumes in LR/F/24 ff. 596-609.
