TitleRegisters of Noblemen's Chaplains
DescriptionIn these volumes are registered the qualifications appointing the chaplains, and in later volumes, the death certificates of the predecessor, resignations and revocations. The documents are entered in full and, in a few cases are signed by the peer. At first there is little order in the entries but later it is usually chronological. Most of the registers have their own indices and a card index of chaplains has been made.
These registrations were made as a preliminary to granting dispensations and, after the Act of 1 and 2 Victoria, c.106 (1838), which abolishes this special status, registration continues sporadically until 1914.
FindingAidsDetailed catalogue records (covering 1660-97, 1706-43, 1754-77, 1809-20, and very partially 1860-1914) based on existing finding aids:
Card index (part) - F V/1/I-XIV (1660-1777) [F V/1/V (1697-1706) and F V/1/XII (1743-54) are wanting], F V/1/XXI (1860-1914) [incomplete].
Chronological list of contents - F V/1/V, ff. 1-25 (1697-1700), F V/1/VIII (1721-24), F V/1/XIII (1754-64), F V/1/XVIII (1809-20).

These finding aids were incomplete and therefore researchers may need to consult the original volumes and their indexes for full information. The original registers do have internal indexes to chaplains and nobles.
