DescriptionGeneral correspondence on the procedures and affairs of the House, especially the role and place of bishops. The file includes letters on a new bishops' robing room, proposals for reform of the House (including memoranda by Ellison), and the increasing scarcity of formal bishops' robes amongst the episcopate. It also includes Ellison's addresses following the deaths of the Earl of Avon, Anthony Eden, in January 1977, and Evelyn Emmet, Baroness Emmet of Amberley, in October 1980. Correspondence between Ellison and the Department of the Environment concerns the cleaning and maintenance of the equestrian statue of Charles I at Trafalgar Square, the positioning of the cross on top of the Albert Memorial, the repair of the quarter chime mechanism in St. Stephen's Tower, and the condition of the Oliver Cromwell statue near Westminster Hall.
