TitleHomosexuality Working Party 1974
AdminHistoryIn January 1974 the Principals of the Church of England Theological Colleges meeting together discussed the subject of homosexuality with particular reference to the problems of ordains, and, as a result of their discussions the Chairman of the Principals Conference was asked to approach the Board to the urge the undertaking of a study of homosexuality with a view to publication.

Suggested [no evidence that they were confirmed] Terms of Reference:

i, A theological understanding of homosexuality both in terms of the biblical evidence and of philospophical theology.
ii, A medical understanding of homosexual behaviour.
iii, An understanding of the sociology of homosexual men and women and particular ways in which they may group themselves.
iv, The pastoral care of homosexual men and women.

The Rev. David Wainwright, Secretary of the Committee for Social Work and the Social Services, was Secretary of the Party.

Following a delay, a Report on the findings of the Party was published in 1979 under the title 'Homosexual Relations: A contribution to discussion'.
