AdminHistoryThe Education Department took its present form in 1970 but had originally been known as the Christian Education Committee (CEC). Areas of focus included the following: a. to advise BCC on issues in the field of education, which are of concern to the churches; b. to make representations on behalf of the BCC, when appropriate, to bodies concerned with education; c. to assist the adult educational work of the BCC and relate it to the adult education movement in general; d. to serve as a point of reference on educational matters for Local Council of Churches; e. to promote exchange of information and the production of literature and other material for Christian education; f. to provide a forum for a discussion of educational matters of Christian concern.

The work of this department after 1974, came under the umbrella of the Division of Community Affairs (DCA), and it was still a unit in its own right up until 1978 at which point the Education departmental was no longer a distinct unit; from 1974 to 1990 it was known as the Education Consultation.
